On June 28, a two-vehicle accident in Spotsylvania County left a 5-year-old girl dead and several others with personal injuries.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Ted Jones, the crash took place shortly before 9 p.m. when a Pontiac G6 driven by 28-year-old Sandson resident Lindsey Fillner apparently turned into the path of a tow truck on U.S. 1 in the Massaponax area.
According to police, Fillner made the turn from a travel lane, rather than a turn lane.
The 5-year-old victim was a passenger in the G6. She received transport to Mary Washington Hospital, where she later died from the personal injuries she sustained. A 7-year-old boy and the 5-year-old girl’s twin sister also received transport to the hospital. An 11-year-old girl in the G6 required air transport to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Fillner was initially transported to Mary Washington but was later flown to Inova.
The tow truck driver was a 32-year-old man traveling with his wife and two children. Police would not reveal the extent of their injuries.
