Have you been offered a settlement by the insurance adjuster? Want to know if you should take it? The answer may not be as simple as you think.

This is a question facing plenty of Virginia car accident victims. You have been the victim of an auto accident and have been offered a settlement. So, should you take it or leave it?

Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast formula to make this decision. You must consider the following factors:

How much time am I willing to devote to my accident case?

Do I feel like I am being given the short end by the adjuster?

Will the settlement really cover the cost of the damage and my injuries?

Is this something that I just want to get out of the way?

Everyone will have different answers. If you find yourself still seeking answers, you may want to consult an attorney (but before you do that, order this free information guide about lawyer advertising). He or she may advise you to seek a greater settlement or to prepare to take your case to trial.

Obviously, the one consideration of what to do if the insurance adjuster offers you a settlement after your Virginia car accident can branch into many choices. Stay calm.

It is your job as a consumer to do your research and to be prepared. If you have other insurance related questions, you can always ask attorney Ben Glass for free. It is a no-obligation resource that doesn’t cost you a dime.

If you want more advice on what to do after a Virginia car accident, order the free guide 31 Tips From Ben and take a look at more informational videos available to you.

It is not often that you think about what would happen if you were hurt or killed in a car accident, but a recent story has caused many people to ponder this sad thought.

On August 1, 2010, Jeannette M. Mosier, a Catholic nun known as Sister Denise Mosier, was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver. She was sitting in the back seat on her way from Richmond, when Carlos A. Martinelly Montano struck the car she was riding in. He was allegedly drunk at the time of the Prince William County crash.

It turns out that Mr. Montano is an illegal immigrant, which has sparked a lot of debate regarding immigration policies. This was his third drunk driving count in five years.

This awful story has also brought forth questions regarding what happens when a drunk driver who is an illegal immigrant hits you. Chances are Mr. Montano didn’t have car insurance at the time of the accident, especially since he had been accused before of drunk driving.

In Virginia, it is not uncommon for a driver to operate a vehicle with little to no insurance coverage. So, what happens in these cases? Generally, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage would come into play. This coverage is designed to cover accident claims in the event that the negligent driver doesn’t have insurance (or not enough insurance).

Fairfax accident attorney Ben Glass discusses insurance in his informative book, Buying Car Insurance in Virginia, The book is free for Virginia residents.

Are you wondering if you have enough insurance coverage? You can also fax your insurance policy to Ben Glass for a free review. The fax number is 703-783-0686.

Even the best drivers run the risk of getting in an accident. Unfortunately, getting in an accident in Virginia can mean an increase to your car insurance premium. Even a speeding ticket means a risk to your premiums.
However, some Virginia insurance companies offer safe driver discounts and programs, which could entitle you to a lower premium. Of course, that also means that everyone in the family needs to maintain a good driving record, with no “at-fault” accidents or tickets.
The good news is that you are not at fault in the accident, Virginia law prohibits the insurance company from raising your rates.
If you ever feel slighted by your insurance company and feel that your rates were raised unfairly in Virginia, contact the Bureau of Insurance.

Thinking of buying car insurance? Want to get the best price possible on car insurance?
Then ignore all the hooplah out there and prepare to spend some time shopping for the right price and the right plan.
Buying car insurance in Virginia is a mindless, one phone-call activity for uninformed consumers. However, for those people interested in getting just the right price with the neeeded coverage, it will mean shopping around for quotes. So make sure your phone is by your side and you have something to write on.
Now look up the phone numbers for the names you see so often on the television:

State Farm
Allstate

Geico

and more…

Make sure you’ve decided on who will be on your policy and what cars will be covered. Take a peek at some of the previous articles to learn more about what kind of insurance you may want to purchase and what coverage you may want as well.
Some companies will offer your six-month renewable policies. However, if you really want to lock down the deal you’re getting, think about getting a one-year policy. That also means that you should ask if the quotes you are given are for six-month or one-year policies.

Once you have identified a few policies that fit in your price range, you should decide on which insurance company appeals to you most according to their history. Think about what the service was like over the phone. If it’s bad now, it could be worse later. You want to know that you are a valued customer from the very beginning. Of course, never overlook the most immediate resource of your friends and neighbors. They likely have first-hand stories that will tell you more about the potential service issues or excellence.

Before you purchase, double-check everything. This is a financial commitment and one that could save you a lot of grief if you choose well and have to call upon your insurance in your time of need.

Don’t make the mistake of believing that you will have a future filled with exotic beach vacations and all the luxury items you could ever dream of, just because you have won your Virginia car accident case. Winning a personal injury case isn’t the same as winning the lottery, especially in Virginia.

In Virginia, personal injury lawsuits are tough. That is why you need to make sure that you are represented by a Fairfax accident attorney who has the experience to not only negotiate settlements outside of court, but also has a background in taking cases to trial.

Finding the right lawyer to handle your case isn’t a simple task. You need to take your time in the selection process and ask a lot of questions, before choosing a Virginia car accident lawyer to represent your case. Attorney Ben Glass provides insight into how to hire a lawyer in his book, The Truth About Lawyer Advertising.

While a settlement or jury verdict is by no means the same as lottery winnings, it can help cover your medical bills, lost income and other damages. If you have been hurt in a Virginia auto accident, the best thing to do would be to consult with a lawyer who will review your case and provide guidance.

Shopping for a car insurance policy can be an unusual experience for consumers. Virginia has what is known as a competitive rating law. This essentially means that the different insurance companies will be charging different rates for car insurance.

The first step to successfully shopping for car insurance in Virginia is by gaining as much knowledge on the subject as possible. You can learn more about insurance types and additional coverages through The Ultimate Guide to Car Insurance in Virginia. Being educated on what you need will save you money in the end by not buying excess coverage.

Next you should call around to insurance agents for different companies in the area to get quotes on your annual premium. Just as with any other product, you want to shop around before selecting the best product for you. Make sure you’re getting one year quotes and not six month quotes.

You may even want to consider buying a one-year policy rather than a six-month policy in order to avoid so many premium increases.

Next, after you have narrowed down your search based on pricing, learn more about the reliability of the companies. You can learn a lot from friends and neighbors who will have had a wide variety of experiences with their various insurers.

Once you’ve prepared to make the investment, double check your finances and make sure that the policy you’ve chosen is the right fit. Then you’re prepared to be a well-insured, smart consumer.
